Join Our Team: Hiring Nurse Practitioners to join our NICU or PICU team.

Location: Both positions are located in Iowa City, IA. Both positions may be eligible for a sign-on bonus and a relocation allowance, if qualified.
Position Summary: Join Iowa’s only Level 4 NICU or PICU. The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital is seeking dedicated professionals for two critical roles: a PICU Nurse Practitioner and a NICU Nurse Practitioner. Both positions involve providing overall medical care and management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided, in UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s In-Patient Intensive Care Unit(s).
We are hiring for two separate positions; the role does not float between NICU and PICU. Both positions function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for the inpatient ICU population. Extensive focus is caring for hospitalized patients to manage care and length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care on a 24/7 basis.

Position Responsibilities:
- Assess patient health status through history taking, physical examination, laboratory studies, and additional appropriate procedures (e.g., PICC lines, arterial lines, central venous catheters, lumbar punctures, chest tube placement, intubations).
- Recognize, discriminate, and manage acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and disabilities.
- Determine and facilitate referral and consultation needs in a timely manner.
- Complete medical documentation and billing procedures according to institutional and departmental guidelines.
- Integrate health information into diagnoses and treatment plans, assisting patients and families in implementing the plan in the community.
- Initiate therapeutic measures using independent judgment according to recognized clinical guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for supervisory and administrative activities and special projects as delegated by the Medical Director.
- Synthesize scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles for application to clinical practice at the advanced nurse practitioner level.
- Identify patient/family/community care and education needs, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Participate in research activities, quality improvement principles, and development and implementation of such activities.
- Utilize therapeutic communication skills to provide counseling to patients and families.

Education Requirements:
- Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP):
- Master’s Degree required, Doctor of Nursing preferred. If the Master’s degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
- Current certification as a nurse practitioner (NNP/PNP/Acute Care PNP) and licensure as ARNP in the state of Iowa.
Experience Requirements:
Both require excellent written and verbal communication skills
PICU ARNP:
- Demonstrated experience of two or more years in the care of critical care pediatric patients or experience that demonstrates knowledge of the care of all patients admitted to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
- Selected candidates will be expected to successfully obtain a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner- Acute Care (CPNP-AC) certification within 3 years of hire.
NICU ARNP:
2 years of neonatology or pediatric nursing experience.
Desired Qualifications:
PICU ARNP:
- Demonstrated Level III PICU experience
- Demonstrated experience providing overall medical care and provide medical management for patients in an inpatient setting is highly desirable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Federal DEA license.
- Demonstrated experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical care of pediatrics.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision, critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Current certification as a nurse practitioner (Acute Care NP) and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa.
- Demonstrated experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care is highly desirable.
NICU ARNP:
- Demonstrated Level III/IV NICU experience
- Demonstrated clinical excellence through published articles and/or clinical presentations
- Demonstrated experience providing overall medical care and provide medical management for patients in an inpatient setting.
- Demonstrated experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided.
- Demonstrated experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Federal DEA license.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical care of pediatrics
